There are few places quite as beautiful to photograph a wedding as Tuscany, and Villa di Ulignano is a wonderful example of why.

Set high in the Tuscan countryside between Volterra and San Gimignano, this beautiful 17th-century villa has everything you hope to find in Italy — historic architecture, spectacular views, wonderful gardens and that unmistakable Tuscan light.

For a photographer, weddings in this part of Italy are an absolute gift. The landscape and architecture provide an extraordinary backdrop, but it’s the relaxed atmosphere of a destination wedding — with friends and family coming together for several days rather than simply an afternoon — that often produces my favourite photographs.

I’ve been fortunate to photograph weddings across Italy throughout my career, from Florence and Tuscany to Lake Como, Venice and Sicily, and it remains one of my favourite countries in which to work.
