Some weddings are difficult to forget.

This extraordinary four-day celebration in Venice was one of the largest and most spectacular weddings I have photographed. With a reported budget of around £10 million, guests arriving from around the world and events taking place across Venice, it was an incredible few days to document.

At the heart of the celebrations was the legendary Hotel Cipriani, overlooking the Venetian lagoon towards St Mark’s Square. Venice is extraordinary to photograph at any time, but a wedding on this scale offered an almost endless combination of people, architecture, light and spectacle.

Photographing a multi-day destination wedding is very different from simply arriving for the ceremony. Over four days you become part of the rhythm of the event — documenting everything from the quieter moments between family and friends to the scale and theatre of the main celebrations.

After more than 300 weddings around the world, Venice remains one of the most remarkable places I have ever worked.
